Daniel Baron - Youth Voice Advocate Training

Daniel Baron, a School Reform Initiative founder and national trainer, spent two days in October 2010 with 15 "Youth and Adults Transforming Schools Together" youth team members. These "Youth Voice Advocates" participated in this facilitation training so that they could provide this expertise for their school teams, as they plan and lead community dialogue. They also hosted a state-wide conference three weeks following the training, immediately putting their new skills to use.

This training is based on the methods and protocols originally created by the National School Reform Faculty, known as "Critical Friends Protocols". This work is now held by the School Reform Initiative and primarily focuses on strategies teachers can use to improve their practices. The videotaped clips from this training provides powerful testimony of the capacity of young people to also utilize these same facilitation strategies as they become instigators of school transformation work.
